Evaluation & Review
We work hard at Hoani Tapu to care for and support our students with integrity and compassion.
We are a signatory to The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 ensuring a high standard of education, accommodation, and student support, including frequent and transparent annual reporting which can be found below.
As part of our commitment to quality in our academic qualifications, the College has also undergone regular External Evaluation and Review (EER) conducted by NZQA (New Zealand Qualifications Authority), the latest of which can be found below. This process assesses the institution’s performance, ensuring it meets national education standards and continuously improves its programs and services.

Self-Attestation Against the Pastoral Care Code of Practice
Since the implementation of the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice, Hoani Tapu has undertaken steps to adhere to NZQA’s requirements.
External Evaluation and Review (EER)
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) previously undertook independent reviews of tertiary education organisations in their regular External Evaluation Review process. The last EER process Hoani Tapu underwent was in 2024, where NZQA gave the College the status of Category 2 Education Provider. Please note that the EER process is now no longer in operation.
Grievances and Complaints
We try our best to provide a safe, supportive and positive learning environment for all our students, but sometimes we may get it wrong.
What can you do if you have an issue or wish to make a complaint?
Firstly, please refer to the Student Complaints Procedure, which describes the processes around informal and formal processes, and identifies key contact people to whom you can raise your concerns.
As signatories of the Code of Practice, Hoani Tapu discloses the outcomes of any formal complaints.
In the 2025 review period, no formal complaints were made by students at St Johns Theological College. Any future formal complaints will be logged and outlined on this page.
There was one reported critical incident during the review period: student issue (resolved).
If you feel your concerns have not been adequately addressed, Ngā Amauramu Tauira provides an independent mediation service. You can find more information about this service here:
