Our Governance
Te Kaunihera is our governing body and is appointed by General Synod Standing Committee. The current membership is:

Matanuku Mahuika (Chair)
Matanuku (Ngāti Porou) is a leading Māori lawyer in private practice in New Zealand. He has over 30 years experience advising on corporate, commercial, Treaty of Waitangi, Māori Land and administrative law issues. Matanuku is an experienced governor having held several directorships including as Chair of Sealord Group, New Zealand’s biggest seafood company.

Reverend Clare Barrie
Clare is a vastly experienced Anglican Priest and a Hoani Tapu alum. She is Vicar of St Lukes in Mt Albert, has been a General Synod and General Synod Standing Committee member, and has degrees in theology and fine arts. Clare is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Ministry at Sewanee School of Theology.

Geremy Hema
Geremy (Te Rarawa) is a lawyer who works in the office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Māori) at the University of Auckland shaping research policy for the university. Deeply steeped in both tikanga and whakapono, he is also a member of the Ministry Standards Commission for the Church.

Professor Khylee Quince
Khylee (Ngāpuhi, Te Roroa, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungungu) is the Dean of the School of Law at AUT University. An expert in criminal law and justice, youth justice and Māori legal issues, Khylee has extensive experience in governance, as chair of the New Zealand Drug Foundation, the Sursum Foundation charitable trust and as a trustee on school boards.

Mele Tu’ilotolava
Mele is a Tongan-New Zealand lawyer. She was the first Pasifika New Zealander to graduate in law from a New Zealand university, and has focused on family court work and representing children in matters related to their care and protection, justice and guardianship, as well as being active in mental health related issues.
